This section of the website outlines our planned approach to Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) from September 2026. As stated in our draft policy, it has been written to compliment the work that parents undertake with their children, as the children’s primary educators.
RSHE is lifelong learning about physical, moral and emotional development. Through RSHE children learn about relationships, diversity, respect, healthy lifestyles, safety, the body and how it changes in a sensitive and age-appropriate way. In primary school we are building the foundations of skills and knowledge that will be developed further at secondary level.
In revising our RSHE provision, we have taken account of the Government’s latest guidance (July 2025).
At Rounds Green Primary we value the many different cultures and religions that make us a diverse multicultural school. RSHE is taught in a way which is complementary to the wider ethos, values, and principles of the work we do at Rounds Green Primary.
The objectives of RSHE (as included in our policy) are:
Develop knowledge and understanding of positive, healthy and respectful relationships
Support pupils to recognise their rights and responsibilities, including personal boundaries and the importance of consent
Enable pupils to develop essential social, emotional, and relationship skills
Prepare pupils for the physical and emotional changes of puberty
Promote understanding and respect for a range of families, relationships, values, beliefs and faith perspectives
Support pupils to use the internet and digital technologies safely and responsibly
Develop pupils’ skills in assessing risk and keeping themselves and others safe
Enable pupils to gain the knowledge and skills needed to develop and maintain healthy bodies and minds
Support pupils to recognise, understand and manage their emotions
Ensure pupils know how to access appropriate support
